Minister
The minister helps lead worship, pastoral visitation, sacramental life, and congregational care. In a rural church context, this role also involves listening closely to the rhythms and needs of the wider community.
Our congregation has long served as a place of worship, remembrance, and neighbourly care for families in Speers and the surrounding prairie district.
Speers Pioneer Memorial United Church reflects the story of rural Saskatchewan itself: faith carried west by settlers, worship shaped by cooperation, and a commitment to stand with neighbours through every season of life. Families in this part of the province built congregational life around harvest cycles, school events, community suppers, and Sunday worship. That pattern still shapes who we are today. We gather not only for worship, but also for encouragement, conversation, and practical care.
As part of The United Church of Canada, our congregation shares in a tradition that values thoughtful faith, inclusive community, and service in the world. We honour Scripture, prayer, music, and the church year, while also making room for questions, learning, and the lived realities of people in rural communities. Our worship and fellowship are grounded in the belief that faith should strengthen people for everyday life and deepen their compassion for others.
The name "Pioneer Memorial" carries special meaning for us. It points to those who first established Christian community in this region and to the families whose labour, courage, and generosity helped sustain church life across generations. Their memory is not only preserved in records or names, but in habits of hospitality, perseverance, and shared responsibility that continue to guide the congregation.
Today, Speers Pioneer Memorial United Church remains a welcoming presence for long-time residents, returning families, newcomers, and anyone seeking a church home. We believe a small-town congregation can still offer something essential: a place where people are known, prayers are shared, and hope is practiced together.

"Faith becomes visible when a community prays together, serves together, and welcomes one another with grace."
That conviction shapes our worship, our outreach, and the way we care for the people of Speers and the surrounding countryside.

The board chair supports governance, planning, stewardship of church property, and the practical decisions that keep congregational life healthy, organized, and accountable.
The youth leader encourages belonging, service, and faith formation among children and teens through programs, events, and intergenerational activities.
Our church depends on readers, musicians, kitchen teams, visiting friends, event organizers, and neighbours who quietly offer their time and gifts.
We gather around prayer, Scripture, worship, and trust in God's presence through both joyful and difficult seasons.
We believe church life is lived in relationships, mutual care, hospitality, and genuine concern for neighbours near and far.
We honour the memory of those who built and sustained this congregation, carrying forward their devotion with gratitude and respect.
We seek to serve Speers and rural Saskatchewan through practical outreach, compassion, and a willingness to show up when needed.
